What do men look for when they try to pick-up women?
Why do they try to even hit on the average-looking ones?
It depends on what type of woman you want to pick up / date.
For external characteristic, I like long hair, tall and not fatty type.
After I know them, I will try to observe things like the way they talk, handle issues, cheerful and most important positive mindset. I don’t those doom and gloom thinking.

Men approach average or ugly women because there is less of a risk of emotional devastation.
To be rejected by a gorgeous woman is much more painful than being rejected by an ugly or average one. It’s also difficult to approach beautiful women because of the physiological sympathetic nervous system arousal problems such as shaking hands, sweating, nervousness, and general feelings of awkwardness.
They also believe they have more of a chance with average women probably due to low self-esteem, or they believe average and ugly women are desperate, needy, and therefore easier.
Average women are more common by definition as opposed to beautiful women who are rare. Because of the abundance of average women, it would appear that men prefer average women, but more average women get approached because they are simply more of them.
You could also cite learned helplessness as a reason. Most men are tragically rejected by beautiful women, and come to feel that they do not have a chance with any of them, so they do not even try.

WHY? Because they have nice cars and good careers. A woman who has a little something going on for herself does not have to depend on a man, that’s why. Some guys are looking out for their futures.

I personally don’t like to go after women who advertise their torso. They have whore written all over them. I like the more conservative dressed women who know how to take care of themselves.
Guys sometimes feel intimidated trying to hit on beautiful girls because typically the girls know they are beautiful and have the attitude to go with it. I usually look at their overall appearance, then speak with them. If I can carry on a decent conversation then there may be a friendship there.
nice face, overall good looks, then get to know them a bit – like what are they doing for themselves,personality, school, work. If they look good and are losers – then hit and quit it.
becuz they have a higher chance of getting them.
and they look for the best catch – highest probability, shud not be totally drunk, shud be decent,
most importantly: when they r drunk they arent thinking sensible and even average look good.
Simply put, Average-looking girls usually have lower self-esteem, since they’re classified in the "average" category.
Lower self-esteem usually denotes a higher willingness to fellate me. Furthermore, girls with low self esteem can be easily persuaded to experiment with degrading bedroom practices, and are able to withstand twice the mental abuse, since they usually carry a very low sense of self-worth.
